£6.40-11.44 an hour (dependant on age), Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, 35 hours a week
 
Founded in 1871 – we operate removals, haulage, and shipping, throughout the country. With multiple branches in the UK and Spain we assist our customers with survey, storage, packing and shipping.
 
We are looking for an Apprentice Assistant Accountant to assist with reconciling monthly trading figures, improve efficiencies within the finance function and working closely with the accounts team to support in all areas.
 
Main responsibilities:
  • Sales ledger
  • Purchase ledger
  • Daily banking
  • Petty cash
  • Credit control
Qualifications

GCSE 9-4/A*-C in English and maths or Functional Skills Level 2 in both, proof of certificates is required

Due to the demands of the role, applications with less than the required grades will not be considered. Equally, applications received without stating GCSE maths and English/Functional Skills/equivalent results will not be considered.
 
If you hold a Level 2 AAT Certificate or verifiable knowledge, a discussion can be had about moving straight onto the Level 3 apprenticeship.
 
Course breakdown

The apprenticeship will need you to attend classes at college one day a week for the length of a full college day, which you need to commit to. Time spent training will come under the working hours per week. It is a Government requirement for you to spend a minimum of six hours a week off-the-job – off the job can consist of college attendance, coursework, project related work, employer training, mentoring and coaching.

Apprentices are independently assessed at the end of their programme to achieve the Assistant Accountant apprenticeship at a Pass or Distinction grade.
  • Synoptic Test (3 hours on a College PC – 40%) Covering: IT Systems/Processes, Standards, Reporting, Analysis, Comms, Problem Solving, Quality and Accountability within a Financial Accounting Environment.
  • A portfolio and reflective discussion (60%) showing evidence of knowledge, skills and behaviours while within the workplace had met required standards.
  • Standard Level 2 AAT Exams after each individual unit.
Future prospects
 
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, and subject to progress as an employee, we would like to offer you a full-time job. The desire is you to stay with the business and grow a long-term career in Accountancy. Potential job roles to move into in the future: Operative Wages and Payroll and 
Assist Finance Manager. You could look to oversee management accounts, statutory accounts and cashflow and bank management.

  • Pension after 3 months of employment (dependant on age)
  • 20 days holiday, plus Bank Holidays
  • We are based in Botley, and it is quite remote. Living local would be a benefit.
