Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice

Fareham - first 20 bus stop a 10 minute walk away
£6.40-11.44 per hour (dependant on skill level), 8am-4pm with 2x 15 minute breaks and 30 minute lunch, 40 hours a week
 
Here at Finance A Vehicle we are a vehicle sales company with an onsite workshop. We receive cars from a multitude of avenues, our workshop carries out any repairs needed to ensure they are road worthy. We work on different types of vehicles from 4x4, vans to sports and MPV.
 
As an Apprentice Mechanic, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in a hands-on environment. Responsibilities in the role:
  • Assisting senior mechanics in performing routine maintenance and repairs on vehicles
  • Learning to diagnose mechanical issues and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Assist with the disassembly and reassembly of vehicle components
  • Perform basic inspections and tests on vehicles
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines

Qualifications

GCSE 9-4/A*-C in English and maths or Functional Skills Level 2 in both, proof of certificates is required
Due to the demands of the role, applications with less than the required grades will not be considered. Equally, applications received without stating GCSE maths and English/Functional Skills/equivalent results will not be considered.
 

What does the programme include?

This apprenticeship will focus on light vehicle diagnostic processes, fault finding and equipment as well as industry relevant skills and training for example apprentices will practice:

  • Inspecting Light Vehicles using prescribed methods
  • Maintaining a healthy and safe workplace, including the maintenance of key equipment and carrying out general housekeeping
  • Use specific company IT systems within the workplace, including Point-of-sale systems and hand-held devices.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and colleagues
  • Access vehicle technical data to inform inspections and make judgements on wear and serviceability

On completion of this Standard the Auto-care Technician will be eligible to apply for IMI membership as a Registered Young Professional or if they wish as an Associate Member. They would also gain entry onto the IMI Professional Register.

What attendance is required?

Attendance at College will be required on weekly on a Monday. Time spent training will come under the working hours per week. Your assessor will liaise with you to set up mutually convenient times for consultation and assessment visits at your place of work.

It is a Government requirement for you to spend 6 hours a week working towards your “Off the Job Learning” – off the job learning can consist of college attendance, coursework, project related work, employer training, mentoring and coaching.

Learning and assessment

Apprentices build a portfolio of work and work place assessors will be in regular contact to provide support, and to arrange on-site visits to observe the apprentices’ ability and skills in their daily role. It is important for the apprentice to take ownership of their own learning by seeking out opportunities to gain new skills on the job with the employer. The apprentice’s final grade will be determined by the collective assessments known as “the endpoint assessment” and has a Pass/Distinction grade.

The three assessments are:

  • Online knowledge based tests
  • Skills test (knowledge and behaviours are observed in the workplace)
  • Professional discussion (apprentice is to demonstrate that they can apply the broad range of knowledge, skills and behaviours in the Standard)

Future prospects

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, and subject to progress as an employee, Finance a Vehicle would like to offer you a full time job. Potential to earn up to £31,000.00 a year after the completion of the Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician - Light Vehicle apprenticeship. A well performing employee can earn up to £33,000.00 a year based on individual skill, qualifications and attitude towards the job.
