To support FitzRoy staff in the use of communications and information management systems and support the IT Services team in the delivery of the ICT Strategy.
 
Responsibilities/duties
Support
  • Provide 1st/2nd line technical ICT support to staff, assisted by the ICT Support Partners
  • Responsible for hardware builds throughout the organisation, including PC’s, desktops, tablets, etc.
  • Assist in planning and delivery of in-house ICT related training.
  • Help maintain ICT user manuals, updating and providing additions where necessary.
Systems management
  • Provide technical advice for the ongoing improvements of the Fundraising, HR/Payroll, Operations and Finance systems.
  • Update systems, apply patches, test systems and liaise with support partners accordingly.
  • Aid in the administration of ICT Systems including Internet, Email, Telecoms (fixed and mobile), Microsoft Office, antivirus/spam software and web filtering.
Strategic and project management
  • Support the IT Services team in the development, delivery and achievement of the ICT Strategy and its objectives.
  • Support the IT Services to achieve projects that deliver the outcomes of the ICT Strategy. To include, where necessary, sourcing and purchasing supplies.
General
  • Champion the implementation and effective adoption of all Health and Safety requirements whilst using ICT equipment.
  • Work within FitzRoy’s policies and procedures in a professional manner.
  • Assist in the identification of own learning and development needs.
  • Promote the Vision and Mission of FitzRoy and the objectives that govern its work.
  • Undertake any other reasonably similar duties as required.
Experience
Essential
  • Experience of providing IT support to friends and family networks.
  • Experience of working in an open plan office environment.
  • Experience using remote desktop applications to provide support.
Desirable 
  • Experience of providing advice to key users on ICT and systems issues.
  • Minimum 1 years of ICT support in a relevant environment.
  • Experience of providing IT support and information to a diverse range of front line, management and administrative staff.
  • Experience of optimising processes and implementing system upgrades.
Knowledge
Essential
  • Ability to research an IT problem and implement workarounds/solutions.
Desirable
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation, specifically Health and Safety and Data Protection Act.
  • Understands the needs and rights of people with learning disabilities.
  • Developing knowledge of MS Office apps, Office 365, SharePoint, Telephony platforms and current technologies.

Qualifications required
  • A-C grades in GCSE Maths and English or Level 2 Functional Skills, certificates must be provided
  • IT qualification is desirable

Course breakdown

The apprenticeship lasts for 18 months and formal training usually takes place every 1 to 2 months, this will include 5-10 day release whereby the apprentice will be required to attend dedicated training.

Students will be taught using our online learning platform giving the freedom to attend virtually from anywhere. Due to being a virtual apprenticeship the training can be completed at home, in the work place or at our college campus in Cosham in a computer room and would be agreed with the employer. Time spent training will come under the working hours per week.
 
How do you achieve the apprenticeship?

The apprentice will need to successfully complete all stages of the apprenticeship standard. This includes: -

  • Completion of all five Knowledge modules covering 20% off the job training
  • A portfolio of evidence containing real projects carried out within their workplace
  • An employer reference
  • Completion of a business-related project over a one-week period
  • A structured interview with an independent assessor
Apprentices are independently assessed at the end of their programme to achieve the Apprenticeship at a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade.
 
What qualifications can be achieved?
Upon successful completion apprentices will achieve the overall qualification, BCS Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship. In addition to this qualification, students can also gain: -

  • MTA Mobility and Devices

  • ITIL Foundation v4
As part of this apprenticeship we have included FREE Microsoft MOOC on Demand course which can be take up to 6 months after completion of the programme.
 
Apprentices will be recognised by the British Computer Society (BCS) for entry onto the register of IT Technicians, confirming SFIA Level 3 professional competence. 
  
Future prospects
Based on successful completion of the apprenticeship and a suitable role is agreed upon, you will have the opportunity to progress to a full time IT permanent position with FitzRoy.
