Lichfield Safe Centre are a husband and wife family business of 30 years situated in the beautiful market town of Lichfield, Staffordshire, it’s here where we have our showroom. Our family ethos has always been about how we can help others with our ‘Customer Service’. It is of the upmost importance for us to fully understand what our Clients are concerned about or, what they wish to protect. Knowing this, we can work together to give the best service which every Client deserves.

We are looking for an Accountancy Apprentice to join us who is already familiar with Accountancy, being Level 2 AAT qualified. You will mainly do the accounts with full support, as we are a family business you may have other duties at times including answering phones, taking orders and help around the office and colleagues as everyone pitches in! We are not looking for an applicant who solely wants to work on Accounts and nothing else as this does not fit our business ethics. If you like to help outside of your role then read on!

We are a family run business of eight people and three who work in the office so everyone helps out! This role will include and not exhaustive:
  • Entering client information into Accounting system Sage Business Cloud (Sage One) Accounting and Payroll, setting up the customer file, creating the invoice, taking payment, organising the delivery note and passing the Client details over to Logistics to book in for delivery and installation
  • Understand and analyse sales and stock from Sage to understand Client buying demographics
  • Reviewing Sage monthly for accounts and reconciliation
  • Updating the cashbook which is prepared on Apple Mac
  • Pro-actively managing Creditors and Debtors - providing statements and remittances and speaking to Clients when payments are overdue
  • Preparing monthly Clients statements with Clients invoices for their Director to pay and updating Sage accordingly
  • Working in partnership with external stakeholders Accountants & Bookkeepers to learn and improve our internal Accounting processes and procedures.
  • Ensuring good practices and continual learning
  • Working directly with the Director and Office Manager to give weekly, monthly, quarterly, half yearly and yearly updates for submission to the Accountant
  • Helping to support the Office Manager with price updates on the website including new products, changes in products
  • Supporting the Office Manager with brochures/leaflets & marketing material
  • Supporting with pro-active charity fundraising plan
  • Supporting the Office Manager with the Social Media Activities Plan to be agreed with Director and then help with the promotion, as requested
  • Supporting the Director with exhibitions, shows, marketing events including liaising with Logistics Manager on the marketing plan and how to best get our products to events and safely back to the LSC Showroom
  • General office duties as requested and set by Director/Office Manager
  • You will also need to understand the products which we sell within the business and to be able to help clients select the correct Safe for their personal requirements. This will include, speaking to the clients on the phone, face to face and by email and then agreeing best products to suit the clients needs.
Computing knowledge
  • Sage Business Cloud (Sage One) Accounting and Payroll
  • Apple Mac
  • Experience in use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Things to keep in mind
  • Salary starts at £5.20 an hour, a review will be held 3 months after starting, salary could increase over time as value added to the company
  • Occasionally safes and stock may need moving, due to being a small business every one pitches in.
  • GCSE 9-4/A*-C in English and maths or Functional Skills Level 2 in both
  • Level 2 AAT

There is no college attendance. Due to this, applications with less than the required grades will not be considered. Equally, applications received without stating maths and English GCSE/Functional Skills results will not be considered.

Course details

The apprenticeship will need you to attend classes online on a Wednesday for the length of a full college day, which you need to commit to.

Students will be taught using our online learning platform giving the freedom to attend virtually from anywhere. Due to being a virtual apprenticeship the training can be completed at home or in the work place and would be agreed with the employer. Time spent training will come under the working hours per week.

Apprentices are independently assessed at the end of their programme to achieve the Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship at a Pass or Distinction grade.      

  • Synoptic Test (3 Hours on a College PC – 40%) Covering: IT Systems/Processes, Standards, Reporting, Analysis, Comms, Problem Solving, Quality and Accountability within a Financial Accounting Environment
  • A portfolio and reflective discussion (60%) showing evidence of knowledge, skills and behaviours while within the workplace had met required standards.
  • Standard Level 3 AAT Exams after each individual unit.
Future prospects
The candidate will have the opportunity to progress to a full time permanent position with Lichfield Safe Centre as a Trainee Accountant following successful completion of the apprenticeship.
