Finance Apprentice - starting at Level 2 or Level 3

£6.50 an hour, Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm, 37.5 hours a week
Onecom is the UK’s largest independent business telecoms and cloud communications provider, delivering fixed line, mobile, unified communications, connectivity and cloud solutions. We are currently looking for a Level 2 or Level 3 AAT apprentice to join our dynamic, supportive, and ambitious team.
As a Finance Apprentice you will begin working within the Ledger team and will also be encouraged to undertake job rotation across the wider Finance department to gain a broad range of experience.
The below education details refer to a Level 2 AAT apprentice, however if you are interested in Level 3 AAT please still apply as the employer will consider for the right candidate!
Initial responsibilities in the Ledger teams:
  • Processing daily post
  • Support with input/processing of supplier invoices and credit notes
  • Reconcile supplier statements
  • Obtain purchase invoices from supplier online portals
  • Journaling BACS, credit cards and cheques receipts
  • Support credit control process ensuring money is collected on a timely basis
  • Ensure correct and accurate information on customer accounts is maintained at all times
  • Administer copy invoice requests
  • Process credit card payments
  • Assist with any ad hoc requests to support the Ledger Team
 Other possible responsibilities beyond the Ledger Finance team:
  • Support base management and commission reconciliation processes
  • Assist in the reconciliation of intercompany accounts and balances
  • Assist in the preparation of VAT returns
  • Assist in month end reconciliations
  • Strong attention to detail with high level of accuracy
  • Able to listen and take direction, then run a process whilst looking for potential improvements
  • Good systems skills (ability to use the Microsoft packages)

GCSE 9-4/A*-C in English and maths or equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills in both and provide certificates
Due to the demands of the role, applications with less than the required grades will not be considered. Equally, applications received without stating GCSE maths and English/Functional Skills/equivalent results will not be considered.
  • If you hold a Level 2 AAT Certificate, hold an A Level in Accounting Grade A*-C or verifiable knowledge you can move straight onto the Level 3 apprenticeship.
  • To move onto the Level 3 AAT apprenticeship you will need to hold GCSE 9-4/A*-C in English and Maths or Functional Skills Level 2 in both and provide certificates
Course breakdown

The apprenticeship will need you to attend classes at college one day a week for the length of a full college day, which you need to commit to. Time spent training will come under the working hours per week. Apprentices are independently assessed at the end of their programme to achieve the Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship at a Pass or Distinction grade. 
  • Synoptic Test (3 Hours on a College PC – 40%) Covering: IT Systems/Processes, Standards, Reporting, Analysis, Comms, Problem Solving, Quality and Accountability within a Financial Accounting Environment
  • A portfolio and reflective discussion (60%) showing evidence of knowledge, skills and behaviours while within the workplace had met required standards.
  • Standard Level 2 and 3 AAT Exams after each individual unit.
Portsmouth College and Highbury College have merged to become the City of Portsmouth College. This apprenticeship will be registered under the Highbury College apprenticeship banner, with teaching and learning support from Portsmouth College.
Future prospects
You will have the opportunity to progress to a full time permanent position with Onecom following successful completion of the apprenticeship, should operational conditions allow.
