Wightlink are looking for an IT Support Apprentice to join an already established team and provide outstanding customer service and support to all their clients. Having operated for over 160 years and being the leading cross-Solent ferry operator, this is a great opportunity to gain a position in a well renowned and prestigious company!

Working with the team you will be involved in variety of IT systems and processes and have a chance to experience all aspects of IT. There is a strong team spirit and an exciting but relaxed office atmosphere.
The Applications Support Apprentice will provide administration support across a range of activities to the IT department.
The role includes the following duties: 

Application Support:
  • Application support and assistance by telephone, email or in person for the core business applications
  • Escalate to the 2nd line internal support team when required
  • Monitoring internal and external IT ticketing systems, escalating/chasing tickets
  • Working with 3rd Party support companies
  • Data management, purging and auditing
  • Carrying out routine checks
System projects, including delivering to our teams across the business:
  • Identification and documentation of development or bugfix requirements
  • Writing/following test scripts
  • Release testing
  • Education of end users
  • Punctual and good attention to detail
  • Task management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Show a high level attention to detail, be methodical and accurate
  • Good with lone working and managing your own projects

Qualifications required
GCSE 9-4/A*-C in English and Maths or Functional Skills Level 2 in both, proof of certificates is required

There is no college attendance. Due to this, applications with less than the required grades will not be considered. Equally, applications received without stating maths and English GCSE/Functional Skills/equivalent results will not be considered.

What attendance is required?
Your assessor will liaise with you to set up mutually convenient times for consultation and assessment visits at your place of work. 

It is a government requirement for you to spend 20% of your apprenticeship working towards your “Off the Job Learning” – off the job learning can consist of college attendance, homework/coursework, project related work, employer training, mentoring and coaching.

Learning and assessment
Students will be taught using our online learning platform giving the freedom to attend virtually from anywhere.  

Apprentices build a portfolio of work and workplace assessors will be in regular contact to provide support, and to arrange on-site visits to observe the apprentices’ ability and skills in their daily role. It is important for the apprentice to take ownership of their own learning by seeking out opportunities to gain new skills on the job with the employer. The apprentice’s final grade will be determined by collective performance in the assessments in the endpoint assessment.

  • Online knowledge based multiple choice questions
  • Portfolio based Interview
  • Synoptic Project
  • Employer reference
Future Prospects
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and subject to progress as an employee Wightlink Ferries would like to offer you a full-time job in their IT Systems team, based at Gunwharf.
