Accounting Assistant Trainee

£5.50 an hour, Monday-Friday 9am-3:45pm, 30 hours a week
 
As a small business we know that time equals money. We certainly would not spend our time doing the plumbing, electrics or decorating - none of these is our expertise. We are far better off doing what we do well - taxation, VAT, accountancy, payroll, Construction Industry Scheme and bookkeeping.
We are looking for a Accounting Assistant Trainee to join our vibrant team!
 
The role
  • To assist in the preparation of client accounts, up to trial balance and bank reconciliation, by analysing VAT and nominal codes from the bank download files and paperwork that is submitted and then inputting or importing to Sage or spreadsheet.
  • To process and reconcile client payrolls using Sage Bureau and acting as the first point of client contact.
  • Input data to Sage Line 50 nominal ledger or spreadsheet.
  • Run Sage Payroll bureau, producing prints and payslips.
  • Maintain a tidy and effective filing system.
  • Assist in the preparation of client accounts.
  • Analysis of client accounts must be actioned neatly, timely and accurately.
  • Client payrolls must be produced accurately and promptly meeting agreed deadlines.
  • All client contact must be dealt with professionally and politely.
  • Other related duties as required by management.

  • Good standard of verbal and written English
  • Good IT skills (Word and Excel essential)
  • Good with numbers and basic financial information
  • Reliable with good time keeping skills.

Qualifications
 
GCSE 9-4/A*-C in English and Maths or Functional Skills Level 2 in both and provide certificates
 

Due to the demands of the role the employer has advised applications with less than the required grades will not be considered. Equally, applications received without stating GCSE maths and English/Functional Skills/equivalent results will not be considered.

  • If you hold a Level 2 AAT Certificate verifiable knowledge a discussion can be had about moving straight onto the Level 3 apprenticeship.
Course details

Apprentices are independently assessed at the end of their programme to achieve the Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship at a Pass or Distinction grade.      

  • Synoptic Test (3 Hours on a College PC – 40%) Covering: IT Systems/Processes, Standards, Reporting, Analysis, Comms, Problem Solving, Quality and Accountability within a Financial Accounting Environment
  • A portfolio and reflective discussion (60%) showing evidence of knowledge, skills and behaviours while within the workplace had met required standards.
  • Standard Level 2 Exams after each individual unit.
Future prospects
 
The candidate will have the opportunity to progress to a full time permanent position with The John Doyle Partnership following successful completion of the apprenticeship, should operational conditions allow.
