OnSite Services operate 2 commerical workshop facilities in the Southampton area, where they maintain, service and MOT test any vehicle from a light van up to a maximum weight articulated truck, to the Ministry of Transport standards.
Onsite Commercials offer a great workspace for new apprentice to join the business and learn a trade to really grow and succeed within the automotive industry.

As a Light Vehicle Apprentice, your day to day duties will include, but are not limited to;
- Assisting other technicians with vehicle maintenance, repairs and servicing
- Assisting with keeping the workshop clean and tidy
- Shadowing workplace mentor for a variety of tasks
- Develop and build hand skills
- Learning to maintain and repair customers vehicles
- Speaking with customers to ensure they are aware of work being carried out on their vehicle
- Take bookings, payments and other basic office administration, as required
Qualifications
There are no specific entry requirements for this role, however it would be useful to have at least a pass in Maths and English. If you do not hold these grades, you will retake maths and/or English alongside the apprenticeship.
What Does The Programme Include?
- Tyre Legislation and technical information including EU Tyre labelling, Tyre Pressure Monitoring systems, sidewall markings, homologated fitments relating to cars, car derived vans and light good vehicles
- Fundamentals of specific vehicle systems including steering & suspension, braking systems, batytery & charging systems, exhaust systems and Air-Conditioning systems
- Vehicle 4-wheel geometry principles
- Basic consumer legislation relevant to the occupation
- Appropriate Health & Safety legislation and requirements for the workplace
- Hybrid/ Electric Vehicle system and safe working procedures
- Data protection requirements to protect customer and payment information
- General sales principles including; identifying customer & vehicle needs, presenting solutions, closing the sale and dealing with buying resistance
- How the business works and how you contribute to the overall results, demonstrating commercial awareness
- How to carry out vehicle safety inspections and routine maintenance using manufacturers specifications or approved schedules, using vehicle specific data and meeting legal requirements
- The importance of following work place procedures and the consequences of not doing so
What Attendance Is Required?
Attendance to College will be on 1 set day every week for the duration of your apprenticeship. Your College days will count towards your "Off-The-Job" hours, which is a mandatory part of your apprenticeship. It is a legal requirement that all apprentices complete at least 6 hours of "Off-The-Job" training every week.
Assessment
Over the duration of the apprenticeship, apprentices will complete their online portfolio which will include all of their work. At the end of the apprenticeship, the apprentice will be assessed in their End Point Assessment. The End Point Assessment will include several multiple choice exams and a practical assessment. Both types of assessments can be retaken as many times as needed. The practical assessment will involve an external assessor from the IMI, the awarding body, coming into the College to assess the apprentice.
Future Prospects
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, your employer may very well wish to offer you a full-time position. You could also go onto your Level 3 apprenticeship.
